Movado was founded in 1881 by Achille Ditesheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Achille, who was only 19 at the time, named his creation Movado to represent something that is “always in motion”. In 1912, the Polyplan was created to fit the natural countours of the wrist. In 1930, the early Movado Digital Watch was created, which displayed both hours and minutes. In 1946 came the Calendomatic, displaying month and day indicators on the dial. The Museum Watch was created with only a single dot at the number 12 on the dial. This unique aspect of the watch represents modernism, and was so much admired, it was selected to become a permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art in 1969. In 1988, the Movado Artists’ Series is launched, with a series of unique, artistic watches created by artists such as Arman, James Rosenquist, Max Bill, and Romero Britto. The Movado watch collection includes Certa, Dolca, Eliro, Esperanza, Faceto, Fiero, Kardelo, La Nouvelle, Luno, Meza, Movado SL, Museum, Rondiro, Sapphire, Strato, Timema, Trembrili, Valor, Viro, Vivo, Vizio, and Vizio Sport. There are many different styles of watches, for every occasion, including classic, dress, fashion, and sport luxury. There are also watches made out of stainless steel, yellow gold, gold plated watches, twotone ones, gungstein carbide, and museum dial watches. Movado now celebrates 125 years of unique design in watchmaking, and continues to expand all across the world. In 2006, to commemorate 125 years, Movado introduced the M125 collection, in which only the numbers 1, 2, and 5 are displayed on the dial of the watch.
