Hermes was established in 1837, and was initially known for making saddles, harnesses, and leather products. By the time it was the 1900’s, Hermes had expanded internationally and had obtained a good reputation worldwide. Soon after, car accessories were designed, as well as gloves and trunks. Around the 1920’s, Hermes began creating elegant wristwatches and straps for watches. In the next decade, handbags were launched as well as custom silk scarves. In 1978, Jean-Louis Dumas Hermes established La montre Hermes SA in Bienne. From this time onward, Hermes watches have been distributed internationally. Among the Hermes watch collections are the Clipper Cape Cod, Espace and H-Our signature watch line. The watch lines include watches with round cases, as well as square and rectangular cases. The watches vary in their straps as well, for there are casual, colorful ones, or elegant and more sophisticated ones. The Nomade, an example of a Hermes watch, has autoquartz movement, and does not require battery. It has an amazing 45-100 days worth of power reserve, and is a very well-known watch in the Hermes collection. Many different variations of this watch have been made, including a ladies’ watch, a chronograph, and a men’s model as well. One unique variation includes a compass on the watch itself. Hermes watches are known for their innovation and expressive styles. The Cape Cod Deux Zones is another unique watch created by Hermes, which portrays two time zones. Each of these two time zones are displayed on a separate subdial on the face of the watch. It is also water-resistant and can go to a depth of 50 meters.
