Frankenwatches

One usually comes upon a frankenwatch when he or she is looking for an antique, or vintage watch. Frankenwatches are watches that are assembled by utilizing parts from other watches, either of good quality or poor quality. In certain parts of Europe, they are also known as “wedding” watches. The final result is supposedly a better quality watch of improved movement. It is not always so, for frankenwatches contain many defects and often have cheaper quality parts. Frankenwatches are basically watch replicas which use parts that are otherwise genuine. Basically, what they aim to do is deceive the consumer that the watch in question is in reality an authentic watch, a vintage watch, or an expensive watch from a well known designer. They are usually in high end timepieces, the timepieces collector’s love to search for. In replica watches like Frankenwatches, many tactics may be used to deceive the consumer. Such tactics may include:

1. Utilizing a similar movement series and removing the part that has the caliber number.
2. Placing crowns and hands that are not genuine where the original, worn hands and crowns were before.
3. Dials that do not function properly.
4. Scratches on parts that were not replaced
5. Poor functioning screws
6. Discoloration anywhere on the watch
